On May 13, 2005, legendary Colorado State thrower Loree Smith notched a victory in the women's hammer throw at the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a monster throw of 229 feet, 9 inches. Her toss still stands as a CSU record and marks the second-best throw in Mountain West history. During the same meet, CSU thrower Adam Trainor emerged victorious in the men's hammer throw with a similarly impressive toss of 216-10.
